Sean Logan is another exciting recruit Davidson was able to land and just like Reed Bailey, Logan is TALL, 6’10 tall and weighing 205 lbs. The New Jersey native was ranked a 3-star by 247 Sports and had offers from Iona, Loyola Chicago, Northeastern, and received interest from Rutgers and Wisconsin. Logan is a true big who can play the 4 and 5 and step out and shoot the 3 accurately.

In high school he used his size to great effect, averaging almost 5 blocks per game. Without a doubt, his shot-blocking ability is his most exciting attribute for me as a true shot-blocker could transform Davidson’s defense. In his highlight tapes he also shows a low-post game and was even expected to contribute off the dribble, evidenced by his game winning drive and bucket against Elizabeth, New Jersey (the No. 8 team in New Jersey at the time). Logan also had one VERY exciting highlight where he pump-faked a closing defender then took it to the rim and finished with a nasty dunk; it was definitely something. He also has a few other exciting dunks in his tape as well. Not to be overlooked, Logan is also a very solid shooter from 3 (surprise, surprise) and shows solid passing ability in his tape. While I would not expect Logan to guard much on the perimeter his dunks and blocks illustrate his athleticism down low.

As for a comparison, I see a lot of Junior Year Will Magarity in his game with a few key differences. First, Magarity was 240 lbs by the time he graduated, Logan is just 205 lbs at the moment. Obviously, Logan is just a freshman and will add significant weight as he develops. Second, Logan seems a tad bit more fluid in general and aggressive at the rim, trying to dunk most of his finishes. This of course could just be a product of playing against high school players shorter than him, but you have to love Logan’s aggressiveness around the rim. Finally, I think Logan’s 3-point shooting form is a bit cleaner and will yield a higher percentage than Magarity’s did.

I expect Sean Logan to play spot minutes during his freshman year as with any freshman it takes time to get used to the speed and physicality of the college game, plus Logan will need time to put on weight. However, I have heard that Logan’s early returns from Davidson’s foreign trip have been encouraging and that may well portend to him playing a larger role than expected. Either way, I think Logan will have a very fruitful Davidson career.
