A10 Bracketology Update
Now that the A10 regular season is over it feels like a good time to give a bracketology update. As there are only two A10 teams in contention for an at-large bid, this update shouldn't too long. Saint Louis The Billikens climbed as high as a 6 seed in many brackets back in early February, but have since fallen on tougher times. The last three weeks have seen SLU pickup a Q3 loss to Rhode Island and get blown out by both George Mason (a Q2 loss) and Dayton (a Q1 loss). The g

In Search Of Positive Regression
The most viewed article in the entire history of our blog -- and the one I'm most proud of -- remains " Millie Prior and the Math Behind Davidson's Defense ." It was incredible to watch the fanbase rally around Davidson WBB down the stretch last year, as the Cats put together a win streak that earned them their first double bye and WBIT berth in program history. Expectations were elevated this year, as Davidson secured an elite nonconference schedule that was capable of posit

5 Burning Questions for the Rest of Davidson's Season
Just over halfway through the conference season, our Cats are sitting at 5-5. While such a mark might not have seemed strange based off our preseason expectations, the way that these Cats have gotten here has been fascinating to watch play out. There was a stretch in the early noncon slate, as has often been the case in recent history, where Davidson looked like it had taken a leap. It all appeared to come crashing down in late December, once again as per the recent norm. The

Proof of Theory
Friday afternoon saw Davidson pull out another solid win, making it a clean 5-0 start to begin year four of the Matt McKillop era. The Cats have achieved this impressive start playing an attractive brand of basketball we have affectionately coined “ Matt Ball ”; hitting shots on offense, stopping opposing teams on defense, and playing nearly 12 guys a night. According to KenPom the Cats have jumped nearly 40 spots, in less than three weeks, from 150 th in the preseason to 11

An Ode to Matt Ball
Since taking over as Head Coach, it has been clear that Matt McKillop wanted his teams to play a different style than Bob McKillop's. Same motion offense, same pack line defense, same first principles, but it was going to look and feel different. Matt's teams wanted to be more athletic, play with more tempo, and make their hay on the defensive end. We have, at times skeptically, called this "Matt Ball". Well, after three seasons of misfires it appears Matt Ball has finally ar

About Last Night
Davidson did just about everything a fan could ask for against Washington State, playing a complete game that saw the Cats not only lead wire-to-wire against the Cougars but dominate them, maintaining a lead that rarely fell below 15. I could tell you about how the individual players looked really good, how the defense was miles better than anything we saw last year, or how the offense moved the ball crisply and nailed open looks, but it's much easier to simply state that las

WBB Preseason Primer: Bring on the Major Leagues
The concept of timelines in sports is inherently silly. They don't exist, but they control us anyway. They set our expectations, manage our hopes, and serve as the basis for all of our best laid plans. Timelines are mostly for GMs and podcasters, not the ones suiting up every night. Podcasters (and GMs, for that matter) are famously often wrong. One thing that is very real , though, is The Leap. We all know it when we see it: it's that feeling that everything has very quickly

Hope Springs Eternal for the Men's Program
The leaves have changed color, the clocks have been turned back, and the jackets have been taken out of the closest. It’s College Basketball Season again and hope springs eternal. For basketball-inclined Davidsonians this time of the year has often carried with it feelings of hope and optimism. For a magnificent stretch of almost three decades Bob McKillop built and helmed a program that let fans reasonably believe that their Cats would be contending for conference champions

Will the Cats Make Shots?
If you ask any Davidson basketball fan why last season went so awry, they are bound to answer: the three-point shooting. Yes, the defense was bad, but it was bad throughout the season. It was the fall off in three-point shooting that dovetailed with the team's disastrous 2025. In case you are a glutton for pain, the Cats had the 54th best offense in the country during the non-con when they shot 36.5% from 3. In A10 play Davidson's offense cratered to 156th, in large part beca
